Even in the 21st century, communication is still a major issue in our society. So many technological advances are given to us, like the cell phone, internet, and email. However, it seems that the communication gap in our society has only gotten bigger.
Today’s society seems to have lost the way to communicate clearly with one another. This is hard to believe, considering we have so many ways to do so. Technological advancements allow for many ways to communicate, but these tools are not being utilized effectively.
Whenever there is a disagreement on anything, people do not talk about it, like civilized humans. Instead, they scream and shout, or they have arguments over MySpace.com or texting.
People tend to have their own ideas about life and the morals of it. If someone disagrees with the idea, then both parties get aggravated, and that is when maturely listening to one another goes out the window.
This does not get any part of the problem solved because nobody is communicating clearly. People just argue and fight to the point where they cannot hear or understand each other.
I read an article in the paper last month about the Goshen City Council discussing the protection of gay rights. Joined together were 135 people, but nobody was listening to one another. They just yelled and shouted, causing the debate to last six hours, and nothing was truly accomplished. People still were not understood as a community.
Teens, however, are the biggest example of miscommunication. In today’s society, teens will pick up a cell phone in anger and text their frustrations away. When this is done, it really shows how immature the person truly is.
I remember my sophomore year when one of my friends was irate. She thought it necessary to text me and called me things she should not have. This just shows how teens can be childish. I did not respond to most of the messages, but instead went on with my life.
This really just shows how immature our society has become, and is becoming more and more each day. If society communicated in a more mature fashion, lots of disagreements would be solved, such as wars. Wars are started all over the world, and most of them have started because of some disagreement with two or more countries.
If they had just talked about the problem then maybe it would have been fixed. At the end, blood would not have been shed for a cause that could have been solved by talking it out.
This probably will not happen, because people do not see a problem with how they handle situations. Our society has a lot of maturing to do, and unfortunately it does not seem like it will happen anytime soon.
