Hollywoods Lacking Creativity

Creativity seems to be running a little low in Hollywood these days. All the newest films either have been remade, or were already a best seller novel.

Most of the films that come out into our theaters are remakes from earlier time periods. That is not to say that they are not good, just that it has been done already.

Some of our more classic horror films are being remade, such films as “Nightmare on Elm St,” which is set for release on April 10, 2010, and “Friday the 13th,” which was released on Feb. 13, 2009. The Halloween films have begun to join the remake list, with the newest one “Halloween 2” released on Aug. 28, 2009.

Granted these films are good, but people have already seen them over and over again. The plot does not change.

One of the popular things to do in the film industry is to produce a film from a best-selling novel. This can upset viewers if the film is not the same quality as the book.

Some of the best-sellers that have hit our screens have been “Harry Potter,” the new released “Ink Heart,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Play List,” “Marley and Me,” and “Twilight Saga.”

The final Harry Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows” is going to be broken up into two separate films. The first half will be released on Nov. 19, 2010, and the second half of the film is set for release on July 15, 2011.

This does not seem like it would be necessary because the book is not very long, when compared to other books in the series. Splitting the film into two different parts may ruin the quality of the story line for the viewers.

Another book that is hitting our big screens are “The Road,” starring Veggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron, which is a story of a man and his son on a barren road after civilization has ended.

Set to come to theaters on Dec. 11, 2009 is “Invictus,” a film based off the book “Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation.” This film stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, following the life of Nelson Mandela while he is president in South Africa.

All these films that are coming to our theaters are just copies of books or remakes. A lot of the time the book is not done proper justice in the film, and those who have read them seem to not like the movie version of the story.

It seems Hollywood has run out of ideas for new plots to films. Viewers count on films to be more interesting than the generation before, but really the films tend to have the same plot or they are the same script just with a new cast. It would seem cheaper to just buy the older version of the film or the book, because really what people are paying for are the new special effects.
